Connect with others and share experiences
Our peer support groups are a space for people to speak openly about their experiences and learn from each other in a safe, supportive environment. Create meaningful connections with like-minded people who can relate to, inform, and even help you along your journey.

Safe Space
Peer support for LGBTQ+ refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants.
Safe Space is a peer support group for LGBTQ+ refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants to come together and discuss a range of issues affecting them, share experiences, and seek advice.
Each Safe Space session will have facilitators to guide the group, but the priorities for the session are determined by the participants. The sessions are loosely structured to ensure everyone has an opportunity to participate, and there will be an opportunity for direct support throughout for those who need it.
Safe Space is open to LGBTQ+ International Protection applicants, people from a refugee background, and migrants. We currently have two groups which are split by gender identity. Both groups are inclusive of trans and non-binary participants
Safe Space sessions cover a wide range of topics, but there is always an emphasis on community, safety, resilience, and self-expression. Participants often explore sexuality, gender, self-esteem, communication styles, emotional expression, sexual health, relationships, spirituality, and healthy boundaries.
Our Safe Space peer support groups meet on the first Saturday of each month from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre.
To sign up for Safe Space, simply fill out the registration form and we will be in touch to confirm your details. If you need support to complete the registration form, please contact our team. [link to contact us page]
If you require financial assistance to cover travel costs to attend Safe Space, our team will do what we can to accommodate your travel. Please note, we have limited capacity to support travel costs and cannot guarantee to cover travel costs for all participants.
We understand that it can be a long day, so lunch is provided for all participants. You can share any dietary requirements or allergens on the registration form.
Other Peer Support Groups
Everyone deserves to receive understanding, care, and support. Our team at Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre is currently working to develop additional peer support groups to meet the needs of the community. Please subscribe to our newsletter to be the first to hear about any new activities.
